Aside from dining out, hosting dinner parties, buffets or get-togethers at home is one of my favorite pastimes. Nothing quite beats good food with wonderful people and flowing conversation (with undertones of juicy gossip, of course).
A couple weeks ago, my parents invited about thirty of their closest friends to our home in Oakland for an afternoon of food, wine, music and more wine. While I love my apartment in San Francisco, it’s refreshing to host a party where space and available seating is not a factor to consider in the event planning process.
We served a wide array of appetizers, including the always expected gravlaks (a tried-and-true favorite among our family, and now our friends), a sea salt & radish butter with toasts and parmesan pistachio crisps – this two-ingredient recipe is so simple you might just doubt how addictive these little bites are.
1 cup (4 ounces) of high quality Parmigiano-Reggiano
2 tbsp finely unsalted chopped pistachios
Preheat oven to 350°F. Using about 2 tsp of cheese, form 1-1.5 inch length strips on a parchment lined sheet pan. Sprinkle each strip with chopped pistachios and bake for 6-8 minutes. Let cool for 1 minute before removing from pan.
