Thanksgiving Appetizers

Thanksgiving in the Hauch household is always interesting: we are normally outnumbered by dogs (our record was 7), the pound of turkey-to-person ratio is at least 4-1 and the dinner menu hasn’t changed in 24 years – green beans were added to the assortment three years ago and let’s just say, we don’t deal well with change. The green veggies were never seen again.


The truth is, while we have many excellent cooks in our family, dinner prep is entirely my aunt’s ballgame. The only room for interpretation, or extra helping hands, is saved for appetizers and the wine list (better that way anyways as she uses butter and cream in the absolute perfect proportions). In an effort to contribute to the festivities, I’m toying with some of these yummy options for a little pre-turkey snacking:

~ Tomato Tart with Basil & Paneer ~
~ Warm Fennel & Parmesan Dip ~ with ~ Rosemary Flatbread Crisps ~
~ Winter Squash Soup with Gruyere Croutons ~
~ Curried Spaghetti Squash & Chickpea Toasts ~

I’m still a huge fan of Girl & the Fig’s turkey fennel citrus blend that I used for last year’s early Thanksgiving….I means Friendsgiving.
