For the past week, the usual tourist trap that is Union Square was transformed by SF Chef Week. To the passerby, the large white tent (only outshone by the massive Christmas tree installed each year) may have looked like the location for yet another convention. To the ticket holder, however, this tent was the Grand Tasting Tent and home to an incredible number of restaurants, wineries and mixologists ready to partake in a full week of culinary festivities.
It was the first time I had bought tickets but after attending both the Saturday night event and Sunday’s Brunch by the Bay, it certainly won’t be the last. I wish I could remember every flavor, ingredient, spice and sauce used in each small dish we tried but let’s be honest, everything we ate was delicious.
While thrilled that many of my favorite restaurants were there (A16, Delfina, Farallon, Central Kitchen, Park Tavern & CHAMBERS eat + drink), I was even more excited to test out some of those on my ever-expanding list (Bix, Maven, Aziza and Picán). And, of course, no night would be complete without a glass of red wine in one hand and whiskey in the other…well, maybe not at the same time, but you get the point.
