Macaroni and cheese is a food group (yes, it should be considered its own category) that is too often overlooked or written off as “kid’s food.”  So, for all the children in you, take a trip across the Bay Bridge and visit Homeroom, an Oakland restaurant dedicated to bringing the simple wonder of mac and cheese back to life. Whether you’re craving asiago, goat or a sharp white cheddar cheese, Homeroom has a dish for you. Add their famous breadcrumbs for a little something extra.

If we weren’t so pleasantly full after our cheesy entrées, we would have gone straight for the homemade oreo topped with sea salt and creamy peanut butter pie. Our eyes may have been bigger than our stomachs.

Mac the Goat
Rich and tangy chèvre, scallions and crispy breadcrumbs, drizzled with olive oil
Spring Mac
Aged asiago, fresh herbs, peas and lemon zest
Gilroy Mac
Creamy gouda, sharp pecorino and roasted garlic

Thankfully, I can now replicate (or at least attempt) some of their recipes at home with their cookbook (available here).
